During regular work hours (weekdays Monday through Friday), if you have a problem with your room (e.g. a light is out, the toilet is clogged, the garbage disposal isn’t working, etc.), you must complete an online form at https://atlas.mit.edu to request the help of the House Mechanic. Once at the website:
- Locate the Menu on the left-hand side of the website
- Click on “Service Request”
- Click on “Create Request”
- Select your room number from the drop-down menu. PLEASE NOTE: if you live in a suite or multi-bedroom apartment, you MUST enter the A, B, or C in the “Additional Location” section so the mechanic has the exact location of the issue.
- Track the status of your repair request at this website
If you have an emergency issue during off-hours (evenings/nights/weekends), please call Facilities at “FIXIT” (617-253-4948) or 617-253-1500. If you don’t have access to a cellphone, use the wall-mounted phones in the hallways of Ashdown to contact Facilities by dialing extension x31500. Please provide your room number and a description of the problem.
You can also report issues with common spaces using the Atlas form. Be sure to include the room that has the issue and not your room number in that case.
For house-wide issues (e.g. flooded hallways, burst pipes, etc.), it’s also a good idea to email the House Manager Denise Lanfranchi (email@example.com).
If it is during the day when the front desk is open, visit the front desk to get a spare key. This must be returned as soon as possible, otherwise you will be charged for the key.
If you are locked out late at night, and the night watch staff is not at the front desk, call MIT Facilities at 617-253-1500 to reach the night watch staff. If you don’t have access to a cellphone, use the wall-mounted phones in the hallways of Ashdown to contact Facilities (who will page the night watch staff for you) by dialing extension x31500. You will be asked to go to the front desk lobby to meet the night watch staff.
